Marsala Leather + Black Bustier

Monday, December 22, 2014

Blazer: Vintage (also worn here)
Tee: Target
Bustier: ASOS (also worn here)
Pants: Rag & Bone (also worn here)
Bag: Chanel
Shoes: Aminah Abdul-Jillil
Sunglasses: Dsquared2

Finally made it over to the Palihotel this weekend for brunch at The Hart and the Hunter, which was a total treat.  Amazing biscuits, cozy atmosphere, and bottomless mimosas? Yes please.  It's been a while since hubby and I have been able to have a leisurely brunch alone together, so big thanks to my sister and her boyfriend for entertaining the kiddos for the majority of our Saturday morning.  Usually when we go out for Saturday brunch I am shoveling food as fast as possible into my mouth and trying really hard not to let my eggs spill into the hair of whichever child is sitting on my lap.  Also, I dress way more shiteously whenever kids and breakfast are involved.

This time however, I pulled it together a bit for our date-day.  I maintain that Rag & Bone makes an amazingly-fitting pair of pants.  I'm still in love with them, and even though they aren't exactly the 2015 color of the year (which I'm still on the fence about because it's like a duller version of oxblood, a color I actually love) I'm going to argue that they are in the zone of what's current and happening in the design world.

Leopard Coat and Leather Leggings

Wednesday, December 17, 2014

Jacket: Sheinside, old (last worn here)
Top: Zara (also worn here)
Pants: J Brand
Boots: Chinese Laundry (splurge here)
Bag: Burberry Prorsum
Sunglasses: Dsquared2

You guys, I finally started (yes, started) Christmas shopping and this is what I wore.  It's been cold and windy and rainy, so walking around outdoors shopping requires appropriate gear.  While jackets/layers are a huge year-round thing here in L.A., it's pretty rare that you need anything heavy, which is why this leopard topper is perfect.  I searched high and low last year and finally picked this one because it wasn't furry (I actually hate the furry leopard ones) and didn't have too many details going on (belts, hardware, zips, or studs AND leopard? no thanks.)  I would have paid way more for this, but luckily found it for like $40 on sheinside.com.  Speaking of which, I hadn't visited the site in a long time, but in searching for a similar option for you guys (sorry I couldn't find one, ugh) got sucked in for a while...and then didn't buy anything.  Oops.

Plaid Shirt and Leather Pants

Monday, November 24, 2014

Shirt: Zara
Pants: J Brand
Shoes: Aldo (similar here, here)
Bag: Burberry
Sunglasses: Dsquared2

I'm back and honestly I feel like shit over my absence.  Neglecting this blog makes me feel so guilty which makes no sense because it's supposed to just be a hobby.  Something for my family and friends to read so they know what I'm up to, where I'm shopping, what I'm doing.  I don't know when this happened, but in my mind it's now become one more thing I'm growing, trying to take care of, keep alive, and when everything else takes over (kids, family, work, more work, bills, laundry, SLEEP, and now the holidays) my poor little blog suffers and I'm the worst poster/blogger ever.  Because the truth is, when I pay attention to TFR, the results show.  My hits go up, I get lovely emails and comments from readers, and I am actually motivated to push the boundaries with what I'm wearing.  So, I apologize to my blog - sorry for neglecting you, TFR.  I can't promise it won't happen again, but I'll try really really hard not to be so slack in the future.

Speaking of what I'm wearing, here's another pair of pants I'm obsessed with.  Another pair of my recently acquired leather pants have already been chronicled here (have those leggings in black too, best investment ever) but these ones haven't made an appearance yet.  There's not much to say about them, except that I don't know of any other pair of pants that can sex up the most pedestrian plaid shirt of all time quite like these.  Plus the mules.  Yep - leather pants plus mules are are sure way to inject some sex into your outfit without showing any additional skin.  Except, maybe a little toe cleavage.

Navy Leather

Friday, October 31, 2014

Shirt: H&M
Pants: J Brand
Shoes: Alejandro Ingelmo
Scarf: Louis Vuitton (also worn here)
Wallet: Louis Vuitton
Sunglasses: Prada

Get ready to be sick of seeing me in leather pants because it's happening, meaning they are finally coming out to play.  Not only did I get these in black, but I saw them in navy blue and was like awww yeah, I need these too.  My train of thought went something like this: "Wait - are those blue? OMG I love them.  But what would I wear them with? Well, denim is blue, and I wear jeans like 5 days a week - yup, you bluesies are coming with ME."

So essentially, I justified my purchase by figuring that these pants in this blue color would be less offensive during the day than their black counterparts, and so I would wear them just as often as the black.  So far that's actually been true.  Let's revisit this topic in 30-60 days.

Night Moth

Monday, October 27, 2014

Sweater: H&M, recent
Pants: J Brand
Boots: Chinese Laundry, old (similar here)
Clutch: Michael Kors
Sunglasses: Marc Jacobs
Earrings: Vintage Chanel
Lipstick: M.A.C. "Night Moth" lip pencil & "Media" lipstick

Supposedly, wearing super dark lipstick makes your lips look thinner.  I'm not too sure about that, since mine still look pretty gigantic here, and I feel like the bold color calls attention to them even more. You see, I have a major complex about my lips, because I still picture them during my awkward stage, over braces and crooked teeth, before I was allowed to wax or thread anything at all.  Let's just say no one escapes childhood without some battle scars and this big-lip complex is one of mine.  Over time I've learned to kind of embrace them and just live with it (no choice, really).  I even paint them in bright colors sometimes, although I swear I feel like this when I do.  They've actually become as much of an accessory as anything else - paint them pink and it's like hi, summer!  But paint them a moody dark brown and this outfit is instantly winterized.

Blue Plaid

Monday, September 29, 2014

Jacket: Nastygal
Shirt: Geren Ford, old
Pants: J. Brand
Shoes: Zara (similar here, love these)
Bag: Chanel

I've had this shirt for going on 5 years and I originally bought it for the color, but I realized the cut and material have always been what made it a go-to shirt for me.  It's baggy but not boxy because it's silk and has movement, and it's not too short and not too long.  Low necked but not slutty, and versatile because of the print.  It's basically a study in toeing the line between sexy and ladylike, and here I thought I was just being cobaltblind again.

Screening

Friday, June 27, 2014

Top: Zara (also worn here)
Pants: H&M
Shoes: Aminah Abdul Jillil (also worn here)
Earrings: BaubleBar

What does one do the day after moving to L.A. with practically nothing but the clothes on your back?  Go to a movie screening at the TCL Chinese Theater in Hollywood! No?  Well, that's what I did, since I am lucky enough to have a sister whose job involves tickets to movie screenings.  We saw Tammy, which was hilarious - what's not to love about Melissa McCarthy?  She's funny and has dimples.  Sold.  Good thing I packed the essentials (aka faux leather pants) in my bag, otherwise I'd have literally had nothing to wear.

Trend Spotting

Thursday, May 8, 2014

Top: Zara
Skirt: Nordstrom (also worn here)
Shoes: Aldo
Bag: Chanel

Colored leather is a big thing right now, and so are crop tops and mules, and midi skirts.  I am wearing all four of these trends at once, but hopefully avoided looking like a fashion victim by keeping the silhouette and colors pretty low key.  The goal is to still like what you're wearing when you look back at pics of yourself in 20 (or even 5) years.  I'll keep you posted.
