Plaid Shirt and Leather Pants

Monday, November 24, 2014

Shirt: Zara
Pants: J Brand
Shoes: Aldo (similar here, here)
Bag: Burberry
Sunglasses: Dsquared2

I'm back and honestly I feel like shit over my absence.  Neglecting this blog makes me feel so guilty which makes no sense because it's supposed to just be a hobby.  Something for my family and friends to read so they know what I'm up to, where I'm shopping, what I'm doing.  I don't know when this happened, but in my mind it's now become one more thing I'm growing, trying to take care of, keep alive, and when everything else takes over (kids, family, work, more work, bills, laundry, SLEEP, and now the holidays) my poor little blog suffers and I'm the worst poster/blogger ever.  Because the truth is, when I pay attention to TFR, the results show.  My hits go up, I get lovely emails and comments from readers, and I am actually motivated to push the boundaries with what I'm wearing.  So, I apologize to my blog - sorry for neglecting you, TFR.  I can't promise it won't happen again, but I'll try really really hard not to be so slack in the future.

Speaking of what I'm wearing, here's another pair of pants I'm obsessed with.  Another pair of my recently acquired leather pants have already been chronicled here (have those leggings in black too, best investment ever) but these ones haven't made an appearance yet.  There's not much to say about them, except that I don't know of any other pair of pants that can sex up the most pedestrian plaid shirt of all time quite like these.  Plus the mules.  Yep - leather pants plus mules are are sure way to inject some sex into your outfit without showing any additional skin.  Except, maybe a little toe cleavage.

Coat: H&M (also worn here)
Dress: Zara (also worn here)
Boots: Gucci, old
Bag: Gucci
Sunglasses: Stella McCartney

We finally made it to see Gone Girl (loved it!) after my poorly planned attempt failed a few weeks ago, and this is what I wore.  No science to it, except that I wanted to layer due to the chilly weather,  (without looking too eager about it) and I wanted to wear these Gucci boots I invested in years ago and barely get to wear every year.  I adore them, although a black pair may have been more complimentary here.   I'm not about that matchy-matchy life anyway.

Sleeveless Trench: ASOS (last worn here)
Shirt: Equipment (also worn here)
Jeans: Blank NYC, old
Sunglasses: Prada

This is actually a casual variation of this outfit from earlier this year.  It was completely unintentional, but I do realize there's something about this shirt that makes me always want to wear it with leopard shoes.  Speaking of, I added these loafers to my repertoire of flats and could not be happier.  Unlike these shoes, they required no breaking in and literally have a sneaker bottom.  They are fun, furry, and foot friendly - call me obsessed.  I rounded up a few more shoptions similar to what is going on here, below.

Tank top: Brandy Melville
Skirt: Zara, old (also worn here, similar here)
Plaid Shirt: Zara (similar here, here)
Shoes: Topshop
Bag: Gucci
Sunglasses: Fendi

I'm seriously having so much fun with these 90s throwback outfits.  When I was 10, I had no control over my wardrobe, so my visions of coolness were always tempered by statements from my mom like "you're too young for that" or "that's too expensive" or "look these Payless shoes are exactly the same as those Keds."  I tried arguing a few times but that never really worked out in my favor, so I'd just be like "sigh" followed by an eyeroll (when she wasn't looking).   So this time around I'm doing it my way, which is basically trying to emulate  the entire cast of 90210 AT ALL TIMES.  P.S. these $35 dollar shoes from Topshop are "Made in Italy" which I just find so chic.

Coat Check

Friday, May 9, 2014

Coat: H&M, sold out
Top: ASOS
Jeans: 7fam
Shoes: Target
Sunglasses: Stella McCartney
Bag: Chanel
Necklaces: Anthropologie

I saw this coat and had to have it mainly because it's light enough for me to wear almost year round and images of Jordan Catalano immediately popped into my head.  That's never a bad thing, by the way.  After I ditched the last of my plaid shirts in about 8th grade, I never thought I'd see this print again, let alone hanging on a rack at H&M for $15 (seriously).  Dreams really do come true.

With the addition of a dressy vest and pumps, this outfit went from Sunday Funday to Casual Friday.  Stay tuned, I have more tricks up my sleeve.

White coat

Coat: Banana Republic, old
Top: Equipment "Brett" in Pine(sold out)
Skirt: Zara
Boots: Jeffrey Campbell
Bag: Lauren Merkin

Continuing on with this week's white theme (totes unplanned but I'm going with it), I broke out this coat in lieu of the many black options I have.  I think it takes the edge off a bit.  Not that the plaid shirt wasn't doing that too.

Layering in Los Angeles.  Reminded me of growing up in Toronto, where regardless of how warm and sunny it was at noon, you risked frostbite if you even thought about leaving the house without a jacket for the evening.
