Sometimes I wish I lived in the 1970's up north so I could wear ensembles like this all the time (instead of once or twice a year when the temp dips below 60 here).  Then I remember my elementary school days in Toronto, where we would huddle in doorways at recess time, praying for the bell to ring so we could go inside because it was so cold.  Also, I like cell phones, and the internet...so nevermind.

This bag first came out in the 80's.  Since then, it's influenced so many designers (Proenza, Max Mara, Loeffler, and Minkoff as of late) that even Louis Vuitton resurrected it this year in new materials.  I, however, decided I needed the original and not a remake, so I used my internet stalking skills to find one in amazing condition, with the original key and everything.  It took forever.  I felt like I was on match.com surfing through a million profiles looking for my potential mate.  Eventually we found each other though- much like my shoes, it was meant to be.

I'm usually not drawn to floral print anything, but I do think a classic floral print blouse is a necessity.  It does double duty for work and play and makes any outfit feminine.  I got this print because it has colors in it that I wear a lot (white, turquoise, green, blue) but there's a little pink and purple in there too in case I really want to girl it up.  Of course, that didn't really happen here; not sure if it ever will, but I like having the option.  Instead I threw on my favorite vest of the moment and some snake print shoes.  Not sure if snake plus flowers would have worked had the prints been right next to each other, but here they are far enough apart so that they don't compete with each other, and the snake print can stay neutral.

Colorblocking like Clair

I was obsessed with the Cosby Show (who wasn't?) and when I put this outfit on I realized I was colorblocking like Clair.  I didn't channel her intentionally, but I don't mind because she was the shit.  She epitomized 80's office fashion.  I may have left my shoulder pads at home, but the 80's feeling is there, just updated with some silver hardware.  By the way, there was no strategy to putting these colors together, they just happen to be two of my favorites.  I tried them together and liked the result - like pink and purple for big girls.  We can all take a page from Clair's book and brighten up our work wardrobes. Who says you have to be boring at the office?

I'd like to introduce you to my new favorite shoes.  I think they kind of pull together all the slouchiness going on in this outfit, enough so that I was able to get away with this at work.  A little nod to menswear with the vest and pleated pants, but the blouse kept things girly.  The subdued colors of this outfit also made it a little more office appropriate in spite of the casual silhouette.
