Cream Fringe

Tuesday, October 7, 2014

Top: Zara, recent
Skirt: Forever 21, old (also worn here)
Bag: DVF, old (similar here, here)
Sunglasses: Prada
Necklace: Zara

White on white outfits need differences in textures, I think.  Otherwise you can just look like you're wearing bedsheets or like, athletic wear.  I almost never wear this skirt, but it's still summer here, and I thought why not? Jeans or something plain and black are an obvious choice for this hoodie thing I picked up at Zara the other day, but the fringe is just fun, goddamnit.  Everyone is running around in normcore and I for one am still struggling to understand the concept.  Everytime I try it I end up throwing on something that says "hi I have a personality" and not just a $50 t-shirt with a cool label (because that's some ignorant shit, ha).  Want to defeat normcore? Just throw on some fringe.

laser cut navy

Top: H&M (last worn here)
Shoes: Alejandro Ingelmo
Bag: Chanel
Sunglasses: Prada

Of all my experiments with monochromatic colorblocking (see here, here, and here) blue is by far the easiest.  Navy is as neutral as denim, so from far away this this is really like a dressed up Canadian Tux; but up close it's a lot less hick and/or controversial.  Speaking of navy, it's rare that navy clothes get classified as hot, but IMO this skirt is super hot.  It rolls some of my current favorite trends into one nice neat little inexpensive package - midi length, laser cut, pencil skirts, and a sheer effect - done and done.

White Midi Shift

Dress: Zara
Shoes: Aminah Abdul-Jillil
Bag: Vintage Louis Vuitton "Monceau"
Sunglasses: Prada

White dresses are hard.  They can look super slutty or completely prudish if you make the wrong choice in cut and fabric.  And they are almost always see-through to some degree.  Until I found this one, my only other white dress was this one, which I rarely ever wear because it's see through and is technically a maternity dress (I was having a food baby at brunch that day so I wore it, ok?).

This one is pretty much perfect - thick knit material that doesn't require undergarments beyond the norm, and my favorite length lately.  Not too tight, but not too precious, and definitely makes a bold I-follow-fashion-and-you-just-don't-get-it-because-you-are-basic-but-you-will-when-you-see-that-shit-in-9-out-of-10-mall-stores kind of statement (I know my fellow fashionistas will feel me on that one).

LBR vs LBD

Wednesday, July 30, 2014

Romper: Maje
Jacket: BCBGMaxazria
Shoes: Target
Sunglasses: Fendi
Bag: DCF
Earrings: purchased in India

It's official; the little black romper has replaced the little black dress, at least for the summer.  For me, deciding whether to wear the LBR versus the LBD is a toss up between whether I'd rather sit comfortably in shorts, or go to the bathroom without having to strip entirely out of my outfit.   Summer usually means less layers, so the shorts will win.  When the LBR is all you're wearing, the bathroom situation is really not that bad (the jacket I'm wearing here was only along for the ride in case the A/C got cold at Lukshon).  But, come fall when I'm wearing more jackets, scarves, and stockings, and the weather is cooler, I'll probably go with the LBD and give the romper a rest.   Honestly, the possibility of having to take off a bunch of layers in order to squat naked over a public toilet when it's cold outside is just not appealing.  #firstworldproblems.

Jeans: Old Navy
Shoes: Aldo
Bag: Burberry
Sunglasses: Fendi

Pale pink is usually not my jam so I have no idea why I bought this blazer.  Pink jackets of all shades and shapes have been everywhere over the past year, so maybe it's just me subconsciously following the masses.  I'm ok with that, and I feel like it fills a hole in my wardrobe, so I got it and I still love it.  The color is flattering and it did pass the rule of three test.  I copped out here and went the easy route with all black underneath (I was late) but next time I'll try harder.

Mint Blazer: Dorothy Perkins, Old
Top: H&M, old
Skirt: Zara
Shoes: Steve Madden

Sunglasses: Chloe

Mint and emerald is a new color combo for me, but I think works just as well as any other monochromatic look I've tried (here and here).  Nothing says Spring like the color green.

I've been lacking outfit inspiration lately but I think I'm back now, or will be soon.  Between the opening ceremonies for the Olympics tonight (can't wait to see the recap of those sick uniforms and costumes guys) and NYFW being well underway, I should have enough fodder to make a whole bunch of new outfits with shit I already own over the next few months.  What? Inspiration is everywhere.  Sometimes I just get too tired to look.  TGIF!

In any arsenal of ankle boots, I think a wedge heel is necessary.  I can always use more comfort and more height.

Peach Leather & Black Lining

Wednesday, August 14, 2013

Blouse: Bebe, old (similar here)
Bag & Sunglasses: Chanel
Shoes: Zara
Watch: Cartier
Bracelet: Forever21

This peach leather tee fits in great with my usual black and white uniform - another neutral besides black, white or gray is always useful. However, since it isn't lined, wearing the blouse underneath created a nice barrier between it and my skin, and helped me feel less conscious about the fact that I was wearing a sheet of dead animal across my back.
