Vivian-ish

Monday, November 10, 2014

Jacket: Mango (also worn here)
Blouse: Equipment
Romper: Maje (also worn here)
Boots: Steven by Steve Madden, old (in love with these)
Sunglasses: Dsquared2 (available here)

As if the boots on their own didn't already scream Pretty Woman, I went ahead and wore them with a red jacket for the full effect.  I don't mind - Vivian was definitely the smartest and sassiest hooker I've ever seen (not that I've seen many hookers).  Plus, I DID button my shirt all the way up to the neck in an attempt to counteract the overall hooker effect.

Anyway I'm currently searching for a more everyday pair of black over the knee boots because these are a bit dressy, but every pair I like costs an arm and a leg so my mom-guilt keeps me from pulling the trigger.  I wonder if mom-guilt ever goes away? Probably not, but it should.

Blazer: Target (also worn here)
T-Shirt: Zara
Jeans: Old Navy
Shoes: Steven "Lanii"
Bag: DVF
Sunglasses:
Ear Cuffs: Vintage, found on Ebay

Something about this blazer makes me always want to wear it with black.  It's just way too cheerful and preppy or something; I don't know.  It's definitely made to go with things like white linen pants, and white a-line skirts, or a pink pair of shorts even; but that's way too garden party for me (I don't even go to garden parties).  I'd like to think that this outfit is a perfect example of the power of styling, and how your clothes and accessories can say a lot about you before you even open your mouth.

Jeans: Old Navy
Shoes: Aldo
Bag: Burberry
Sunglasses: Fendi

Pale pink is usually not my jam so I have no idea why I bought this blazer.  Pink jackets of all shades and shapes have been everywhere over the past year, so maybe it's just me subconsciously following the masses.  I'm ok with that, and I feel like it fills a hole in my wardrobe, so I got it and I still love it.  The color is flattering and it did pass the rule of three test.  I copped out here and went the easy route with all black underneath (I was late) but next time I'll try harder.

Jacket & Pants: Zara (worn as separates here and here)
Top: Urban outfitters, old
Shoes: Zara
Bag: Chanel
Earring: Ebay (also worn here)

I did it! I finally wore the pink suit.  In my head I thought it would look like a country club special, but the all-black accompaniments totally changed the vibe of it.

Cape Blazer: Nastygal
Skirt: BCBGeneration, old
Shoes: Dolce Vita, old
Bag: Gucci

Had an early birthday dinner with friends last night and wore this because I knew I'd be stuffing myself with food and drink.  I like how the cape blazer makes it so that my hands are free to dig in without the risk of dunking my sleeves in food.   Also, black is slimming, have you heard?

First Anniversary

Wednesday, May 7, 2014

Today is the first anniversary of TFR, and I thought it would be interesting to look back over the past year and figure out what the hardest-working item in my closet is (not counting accessories because we know they are the mules - yes, pun intended - of any closet).  Shocker - it's the black blazer, guys.  Call it classic, call it boring, but no matter what you call it, it's a necessity and money well spent whether you splurge or save.

No lie, I counted at least 20 posts where I'm wearing a black blazer, and I don't take photos every day.  So, add in the non-posted black blazer outfits and do the math-I'm wearing one about every other week.  What the what?!  It also appears I rotate between the same ones over and over - a more expensive Theory blazer, a mid-range vintage style, my budget-friendly Zara, and the cheapie little ASOS cropped version (worn in yesterday's post, actually).

So glad I found this out now, since I'm about to go on my semi-annual closet cleaning rampage.  I think it's high time I made room for the blazer of my dreams (just in case).  Anyway, here's a look back at some of this year's black-blazer moments.  I cannot wait to see how many more wears I can squeeze out of these before they totally fall apart.  Thank you for being on this sartorial journey with me!

White Ivory Zara Flare Skirt Blazer Tory Burch Snake Pumps Shoes Chanel Chain Bag Balmain Work Fashion Leather
Blazer: Zara
Skirt: Zara
Top: Zara (also worn here)
Shoes: Tory Burch (worn here and here, similar here)
Bag: Chanel

Let's just acknowledge what Olivier Rousteing did for Balmain this year at fashion week.  Epic.  Love.  Adore.  The kid (because let's face it, he is a kid) is amazing.  Zara nailed it with this skirt, which was actually out way before the Balmain show.  Impressive.

Phillip Lim x Target Blues

Phillip Lim Target Skirt Navy blazer Gucci Ankle boot Burberry Bag Chanel Sunglasses
Blazer: Victoria's Secret circa 2006
Shirt: Geren Ford, old (similar here)
Boots: Gucci (drool-worthy here)
Bag: Burberry
Sunglasses: Chanel
Necklace: Vintage from here

This skirt is the only other item I got from the Phillip Lim collabo with Target besides this one.  Much like the top, I can think of a million ways I plan to wear it.  Assuming both pieces don't fall apart in the wash, I think this print is my favorite Target collaboration to date (still love you, Prabal).

Ombre Jeans

Friday, August 16, 2013

Blazer: Theory
Top: H&M
Jeans: Free People (similar here, here)
Bag & Sunglasses: Chanel
Necklace: Anthropologie
Earrings: Tory Burch

I feel like the ubiquitous ombre trend has infused enough areas of our life so that it's pretty much not going anywhere.  There's fashion of course, but also hair, makeup, food, home decor (I mean, really?), birth control - you name it and there's an ombre version of it.  Just accept it.  Dive in.  Everyone loves ombre.  Except the entire male gender.
