Camel Statement Coat

Wednesday, November 5, 2014

Coat: Three Floor (also worn here)
Sweater: H&M, old
Pants: BlankNYC
Boots: Betsey Johnson
Sunglasses: Prada
*Flash Tattoos available here

When you have an awesome coat on, everything else becomes pretty irrelevant (yes I think the one I'm wearing here is awesome.)  It's another important accessory that a lot of people overlook, especially those who live where it snows.  No one wants a beautiful coat to get jacked up by snow and sleet, but the reality is it's such a vital part of your wardrobe no matter where you live, you should really splurge on a good one.  It might take a little annual maintenance, but a high quality coat will shine up at the cleaners like it's new EVERY time.  Polyester pills, people, and if you buy a shitty coat once, you'll end up buying a new shitty coat every year.  Waste, waste, waste.  Now, I'm not saying to spend a month's paycheck on one if you live somewhere it stays above 70 almost all year long; but if you do happen to live up north or travel frequently to cold climates, then dammit just buy yourself a nice timeless coat (like one of the ones below).

first world problems

Dress: Target, old
Shoes: Aminah Abdul Jillil (also worn here)
Bag: Chanel
Sunglasses: Marc Jacobs
Earrings: Nastygal

Welp, I've joined the force of people who work from home.  That's right - I'm now one of those people you hate because you see them jogging and shopping and getting Starbucks during the weekday while you frantically bust your ass to make it back to work after a 1 hour lunch (probably still chewing that last bite).  The coffee shops of Los Angeles that offer free wifi are my office at least 50% of the time.  The rest of the time I'm working in my PJs at home.  I promise not to post my outfit on those days.

This is all great, except (here come the First World Problems): I have nothing to wear every day.   Ordinarily I would have put a blazer on over this dress and probably worn black pumps.  I spent years trying to make my work wardrobe double in my personal life, because suits and blouses and shit are expensive, and I'm all about cost per wear.  I had it down to a science and then I started this blog with my scientist self, because I thought other people would want to get in on my rule of three formula and other such gems.

And now, I have the reverse problem - what do blouses and pumps and pencil skirts and trousers and shift dresses do when I'm not working in an office environment? I went from having two casual days a week - that's right, Saturday and Sunday - to seven.  I'm OUT OF CLOTHES, guys.  I have closets full of shit and I have nothing to wear most of the time.  And I for damn sure don't have the time or inclination to start dressing up just to take pics for this blog.  My to-do list is long enough.

I need to figure this out.  I think I need some new clothes to go with this new life.

Top: J. Crew (also worn here)
Skirt: Zara, recent (also worn here)
Bag: Chanel
Sunglasses: Fendi

Wore this on my last day in the office (holy shi* I can't believe that).  Anyway, we embark on our cross-country road trip to our new home in Los Angeles on Monday.  Now that all the moving details have been taken care of we've actually been able to plan what I hope will be a fun adventure for hubby and I.  Posts may be lacking next week, but keep up with me on Instagram as we hit NOLA, San Antonio, Tucson, and hopefully some cool things in between.  Between the beignets, Mexican food, BBQ, and everything else we plan to eat on the way, here's hoping this skirt still fits by the time we get to L.A.  So long, Tampa - it's been real.

Stripes and Whites

Shirt & Shorts: ASOS
Flats: Tory Burch
Bag: Hermes
Sunglasses: Marc Jacobs collection

Been living in flats lately since my house is in a shambles (have I mentioned I hate packing?) and I'm just too damn tired to wear heels all day long.   It feels like these gold babies are (as they should be) in everyone's closet.  Thanks to Tory Burch there is no need to look like this in order to be comfortable.

Striped Shift

Dress: Zara
Shoes: Tildon x Nordstrom
Bag: Hermes
Sunglasses: Chanel

My Memorial Day weekend BBQ outfit, which was mostly spent indoors because it was way too hot and humid outside.  I love that these boots (sandals?) can make even the workiest of work dresses totally inappropriate for work, by the way.  Balance achieved.

High-waisted shorts

Top: H&M
Shorts: Urban Outfitters, old
Shoes: DSW
Clutch: Michael Kors
Sunglasses: Fendi

Not sure how I'd categorize this outfit, except to say that it was really hot outside and I still wanted to look like I put some effort in.  In extreme weather, that's really hard to do because all you want to do is deal.  Not everywhere is perfect almost year round.

Mother's Day

Monday, May 12, 2014

T-Shirt: Zara, old
Shorts: ASOS (also worn here)
Shoes: Zara
Bag: DVF
Sunglasses: Stella McCartney

A lot more preppy than my usual weekend style but it was Mother's Day and I thought I should make a little more effort to look motherly . . . kind of.

Shirt: Zara
Jeans: Joe's Jeans
Shoes: Rebecca Minkoff
Bag: Chanel
Sunglasses: Ray Ban

This is a good example of the power of cool accessories.  When it's all about the ornaments (and when it is not, frankly), make sure they are the best ones you can lay your little hands on.

Top: Old Navy, old (also worn here)
Shorts: ASOS
Shoes: Zara
Bag: vintage Louis Vuitton "Monceau"
Sunglasses: Ray Ban

I'm happy to report that after almost a year, and despite my doubts, this shirt has held up marvelously.  Also, this isn't the outfit I planned when I ordered these shorts.  I was going to go the white t-shirt and white blazer route, but for a Sunday afternoon, this felt less serious.  White jackets can just be so intense, you feel me?

Top: ASOS
Skirt: local boutique, old (also worn here, and here)
Shoes: Tibi "Riley"
Bag: Chanel
Sunglasses: Fendi

It would be easier to list what I am NOT wearing in this ensemble.  We have gold, silver, black, white, stripes, flowers, neon, girly, graphic, metallic, textured, etc.  Nothing wrong with a little visual assault once in a while to keep things interesting.
