Editorial: Lucky Magazine, December 2014

Thursday, January 15, 2015

I seriously wish I had more time for fashion magazines.  There is so much good shit out there, and so many of them now are publishing articles that actually make you think about things besides 4587 ways to please your man in bed or some shit.  I did manage to catch this editorial in December's issue of Lucky Magazine though, and immediately fell in love.  I never wear these colors, but this spread made me want to.  Something about the combination of pastels, with the edgy metallic eyeliner and accessories and DENIM and FUR and mixed metals and this model all made me drool.  I feel like it took some of my favorite things in a whole new direction that we've kind of not seen before - this is actually wearable high fashion.  If anyone spies that denim BCBG top please call me immediately because I will run to wherever it is and buy it.

Belted slip

Duster: ASOS
Dress: ASOS (also worn here)
Belt: H&M
Shoes: Aldo
Bag: Chanel
Sunglasses: Prada

Is it a nightgown? Is it a dress? Does it really matter? Not lately.  When my hubby invited me to join him for a midweek breakfast date at BLD I couldn't say no.  Except, I had about 10 minutes to get dressed, so I literally grabbed these two items that were laying on the bench at the foot of our bed, and dug a belt out of some drawer (I haven't worn a belt since we moved to L.A., isn't that weird?).   Somehow without the belt it looked way too much like a nightgown and bathrobe, which is a look that works for some, but is not quite enough for me.  Even the shoes suggest bedroom attire - all they are missing is a pom-pom on each toe.  I just have this need to look a little more pulled together than that. So, the belt did it - the belt made it look more restaurant than boudoir appropriate.

LBR vs LBD

Wednesday, July 30, 2014

Romper: Maje
Jacket: BCBGMaxazria
Shoes: Target
Sunglasses: Fendi
Bag: DCF
Earrings: purchased in India

It's official; the little black romper has replaced the little black dress, at least for the summer.  For me, deciding whether to wear the LBR versus the LBD is a toss up between whether I'd rather sit comfortably in shorts, or go to the bathroom without having to strip entirely out of my outfit.   Summer usually means less layers, so the shorts will win.  When the LBR is all you're wearing, the bathroom situation is really not that bad (the jacket I'm wearing here was only along for the ride in case the A/C got cold at Lukshon).  But, come fall when I'm wearing more jackets, scarves, and stockings, and the weather is cooler, I'll probably go with the LBD and give the romper a rest.   Honestly, the possibility of having to take off a bunch of layers in order to squat naked over a public toilet when it's cold outside is just not appealing.  #firstworldproblems.

Slipdress

Vest: Zara, old
Dress: ASOS
Shoes: Target
Bag: DVF
Necklace: Vanessa Mooney

Guys, I've been introduced to the world of downtown L.A. sample sales and it's like a whole new door in life has opened up for me.  I picked up this necklace at a fraction of the usual cost.  The magnitude of the whole thing made my head spin so this is literally all I bought.  Next month I'll be better prepared, and armed with a list of showrooms I want to raid.  Anyway a 100% bohemian outfit is not my thing, although in documenting my outfits on this blog, I've realized I have a penchant for bohemian-inspired shit.  I usually urbanize myself by adding something modern, like the vest I'm wearing here, or the black pants I wore here, or the corset belt I wore here, or something else un-hippie like/not from the 70s.  I'm not sure what you'd call the result but I'm working on a definition.

Sweater: H&M

In my mind, Hell looks and feels like the stretch of I-10 between West Texas and Arizona.  This was actually between Arizona and California, which still feels like Hell, but is a bit more scenic.

I woke up like this

Wednesday, June 4, 2014

Shirt: H&M
Jeans: H&M
Shoes: Target
Bag: DVF
Sunglasses: Ray Ban

Not flawless but comfortable and quick for sure.  Jeans and a white shirt never disappoint when you have almost no time to get ready.  They aren't my husband's clothes, but they'd probably fit him (tightly) which is a good sign that I got the boyfriend look down.

Anniversary Date Night

Wednesday, May 28, 2014

Dress: H&M
Shoes: Giuseppe Zanotti
Clutch: Michael Kors collection
Sunglasses: Marc Jacobs collection
Necklace: Zara

Last week, hubs and I went out for dinner to celebrate our 8th wedding anniversary.  I knew we'd be binging on food and alcohol, because we were eating at one of our favorite spots in Tampa for the last time before our move to L.A., so I opted for this stretchy, blousy dress and let the accessories (and Spanx -because let's face it, there's always room for Spanx) do all the work.

Birkenstocks of the future

Tuesday, May 27, 2014

Dress: BCBG, old
Sweater: H&M Conscious collection
Shoes: Target (sold out online)
Bag: DVF
Sunglasses: Marc by Marc Jacobs, gift
Necklace: Anthropologie, old

20 years ago I wouldn't have been caught dead in anything even remotely resembling Birkenstocks.   They are so ugly and do such terrible things to the aesthetic of your feet, that I am only willing to spend $25 dollars on the trend.  We all know it's not going to last.  However, there is something to be said about the kind of laissez-faire attitude behind Birkenstocks and the hippies who invented them, and THAT is exactly why I'm into them at the moment.  They are cool because they don't give a fuck.  Plus they are metallic with studs, and I'm definitely not one to turn down an obnoxious metallic studded accessory.
