Slipdress

Vest: Zara, old
Dress: ASOS
Shoes: Target
Bag: DVF
Necklace: Vanessa Mooney

Guys, I've been introduced to the world of downtown L.A. sample sales and it's like a whole new door in life has opened up for me.  I picked up this necklace at a fraction of the usual cost.  The magnitude of the whole thing made my head spin so this is literally all I bought.  Next month I'll be better prepared, and armed with a list of showrooms I want to raid.  Anyway a 100% bohemian outfit is not my thing, although in documenting my outfits on this blog, I've realized I have a penchant for bohemian-inspired shit.  I usually urbanize myself by adding something modern, like the vest I'm wearing here, or the black pants I wore here, or the corset belt I wore here, or something else un-hippie like/not from the 70s.  I'm not sure what you'd call the result but I'm working on a definition.

Top: Prabal Gurung x Target
Pants: 12th Street Cynthia Vincent
Shoes: Aldo
Clutch: Lauren Merkin
Sunglasses: Fendi

Neon accessories have staying power.  So does this shirt, and I can't figure out why.  It's very "of the moment" but I can see myself wearing it for years to come.

Dress: Young Fabulous & Broke, old
Shoes: DSW
Fanny Pack: Gucci
Sunglasses: Fendi

I feel like tie-dye is always in.  Maybe because it makes an otherwise sack-like dress more interesting.  I don't know, but I'm always drawn to it.

Clip-Ons

leather bomber jacket, metallic belt black and white fendi navette earrings
Jacket: Bershka London (similar here, here, faux leather here)
White Shirt: Banana Republic
Peplum: H&M (also worn here)
Pants: Zara, recent
Shoes: Jean-Michel Cazabat (similar here, here)
Sunglasses: Fendi
Earrings: Vintage

Recently, I went on a vintage earring binge on Ebay.  There are new versions of those 80's staple clip ons popping up everywhere (you know, like Angela used to wear on Who's the Boss?) but the quality on these newcomers really doesn't compare to the oldies.  God, that made me sound old, but in the age of plastic stone mass production, I can appreciate a nice heavy piece of costume jewelry.  Anyway, I can't fucking believe I'm wearing clip-ons again, but here they are.

Gladiators & Maxi

Tunic: 12th Street Cynthia Vincent (old)
Skirt: Zara
Shoes: DSW
Bag: Gucci
Sunglasses: Marc Jacobs
Owl Necklace: Forever 21

Before investing in these babies, which are currently on backorder, I thought I'd pick up these shoes at a fraction of the cost and try the whole knee high gladiator thing out before I really commit.  They're kind of like pop stars - wacky and sexy at the same time - so who knows if they have any kind of staying power.  I like them, but I'm not sure yet if like them enough to spend $400 on a high quality pair.

Beaded Sweatshirt & Denim Pencil Skirt

Sweatshirt: J. Crew, sold out (similar here)
Skirt: Zara
Shoes: Zara
Bag: Jimmy Choo
Sunglasses: Chanel

On this particular day, I had approximately 5 minutes to get ready for a baby shower due to my own calendaring eff up.  I was an hour late.  So I reached for my most recent go-to combo and then literally threw on some distracting daytime bling.  I was hoping that between the purse, the red shoes, and the sweatshirt, no one would notice my hasty hair and makeup job.

Phillip Lim x Target Blues

Phillip Lim Target Skirt Navy blazer Gucci Ankle boot Burberry Bag Chanel Sunglasses
Blazer: Victoria's Secret circa 2006
Shirt: Geren Ford, old (similar here)
Boots: Gucci (drool-worthy here)
Bag: Burberry
Sunglasses: Chanel
Necklace: Vintage from here

This skirt is the only other item I got from the Phillip Lim collabo with Target besides this one.  Much like the top, I can think of a million ways I plan to wear it.  Assuming both pieces don't fall apart in the wash, I think this print is my favorite Target collaboration to date (still love you, Prabal).

Leopard day to night bag

Friday, August 23, 2013

 Vest: Zara
Tunic: Target
Pants: ASOS
Shoes: Jean-Michel Cazabat
Sunglasses: Gucci
Bag: DVF "Mimosa" via Last Call, black studded version here

This bag is everything.  No, literally - it's an evening clutch but came with this handy removable chain strap and also fit my (mom size) wallet, keys and phone in it, so it works for day too.  Jessica Alba agrees with me, see?

The H&M Beyonce Dress Goes to Work

Tuesday, August 20, 2013

Dress worn as skirt: H&M (the Beyonce one)
Top: ASOS (similar here, also like this one)
Shoes: Tory Burch (steal here, splurge here, sale here!)
Bag: DVF via NM Last Call
Necklace: ASOS (old)

This dress epitomizes summer.  But that doesn't mean it has to hang in my closet unworn for a majority of the year.  Although it was clearly intended for consumers to wear it while lounging around in the heat and waves like Bey (seriously, it's like one step up from swimsuit material), a little layering can bring it indoors too.

Leopard + Metallic Accents

Monday, August 12, 2013

Top: Zara
Skirt: J. Crew Factory, old
Belt: Ebay (love this one)
Sunglasses: Chloe
Bag: Gucci
Shoes: Dolce Vita (similar here, here)

I purchased this bag in 2007 and wore it 24/7 for a long time.  Then it went away into the depths of my closet for a while, because quite honestly you can't fit diapers or wipes in it.  It just didn't fit my lifestyle at the time.  BUT - I never could bring myself to give it up, and so after my recent closet reorganization I reconnected with it.  I guess we just needed a break.  I'm happy to say that I can now see my metallic Gucci and I growing really old together.
