At Home with Kate Moss
Tuesday, February 3, 2015
You guys, there are some really good fashion videos out there right now, and the main reason I love them is because they take these iconic fashion people who always seem so holier than thou (see my repost of the Anna Wintour video), and make them real. And the fact is, they are mostly normal and crazy, and talk shit just like the rest of us (those Fran Lebowitz videos on Vanity Fair's instagram just kill me).
Vogue's latest vid on Kate Moss is no exception. They're sitting in her mansion house flipping through the December issue of Vogue talking about major photographers and industry people like it's a high school yearbook. "Oh remember that time with Mario!?!" Yes, that would be Testino. Mario Testino. And Kate looks at these pics of herself in couture like NBD, that's just what I do. It's so cavalier and ridiculous and borderline silly and I love it - watch below:
Olive Sweater & Lace Slipdress
Wednesday, January 28, 2015
Sweater: Target, old (also worn here)
Slipdress: TFNC London via Revolve
Boots: BCBGMAXAZRIA
Bag: Chanel
Sunglasses: Dsquared2
You guys, it's been a minute since I put on anything I would deem photograph-worthy. My uniform these days consists of a lot of black, and flat shoes so I'm working on adding some more interesting versions of these things to my wardrobe. I'm going for quality not quantity, so it's taking me a while, because not only did we just come off the holidays ($$$$), and then award season (no time for life itself), but now I have several upcoming trips to account for. All good things, though - weddings, a bachelorette excursion to Vegas, another vacation to Trinidad for carnival (see last year's recap post here - cannot wait for this year's shenanigans) and also hopefully going to be able to squeeze in a quick anniversary trip with my hubby. We are coming up on 9 years of marriage. NINE YEARS?! Shit, when did that happen? We've actually been together for 14. In this day and age, that deserves a celebration if I do say so myself. We're thinking Mexico in May, but that's subject to change depending on what mouth-watering places Pinterest shows me between now and then.
A quick word on slips with lace on the bottom - they work wonders for elongating minidresses and tunics when worn underneath. Because sometimes you just don't feel like wearing pants.
The Devil Wears Prada
Wednesday, January 21, 2015
Can you believe this movie is 8 years old? It feels like only yesterday I was all "go Andy go! You get that manuscript!" Probably because it actually was the other day, I watched it again like 2 weeks ago #sorrynotsorry. And this time, it occurred to me that the fashion in this movie is amazing because Patricia Field managed to reference so many different fashion eras in one movie while making them all relevant for today. There was some 60s Jackie O, some 80s power suit action, a little 70s glam with some fur, and even a 90s nod with the grungy newsboy hat (below) and some plaid thrown in here and there. And best of all, these clothes all made us feel like we could do it ourselves - nothing was too threatening or over the top costumey. It projected a more relatable NYC, rather than the fantasy world she dreamed up for Carrie and co. in Sex and the City. Love love love.
See those sheer black tights Anne Hathaway is wearing? I think I wore those to every party I went to from 1991-1997.
That coat, though. YUM. Eggplant. So glam.
I would wear this now. Like today. And for always. That layered chain look will never get old, thank you Mr. T and Madonna.
Oh hello Jackie. White gloves, emerald green and leopard trimmings need no explanation.
More fur more drama. Love this 80s peep toe with stockings. Overall this look is pretty busy and probably only works on camera but still striking.
All black errythang always works. These scream a little 90s to me, in a good way. I think its the accessories and hair.
The Chanel boots? Uh huh, I am.
She made me want to wear a hat and I hate hats on me. Also, way back when, I definitely tried this layered shirt look in real life, and got some weird but interested looks. I'll take it.
Editorial: Lucky Magazine, December 2014

I seriously wish I had more time for fashion magazines. There is so much good shit out there, and so many of them now are publishing articles that actually make you think about things besides 4587 ways to please your man in bed or some shit. I did manage to catch this editorial in December's issue of Lucky Magazine though, and immediately fell in love. I never wear these colors, but this spread made me want to. Something about the combination of pastels, with the edgy metallic eyeliner and accessories and DENIM and FUR and mixed metals and this model all made me drool. I feel like it took some of my favorite things in a whole new direction that we've kind of not seen before - this is actually wearable high fashion. If anyone spies that denim BCBG top please call me immediately because I will run to wherever it is and buy it.

Cushnie et Ochs Pre-Fall 2015
Tuesday, January 13, 2015
You guys, I'm so sorry for not posting, I really really have wanted to but every night I just can't even muster the energy. Last week was a whirlwind and this week is shaping up to be crazy too, I'm working on so many different things I could just lay down and TAKE A NAP. Alas, I can't. But I want to.
What I'll do instead is talk about the latest collection from one of my FAVORITE labels - Cushnie et Ochs (that's pronounced "cuh-sh-nee eht ocks" because I know some of you are like wtf?). Anyway, I am in absolute love with this collection. Their clothes are always so fucking cool, but the way they've taken knitwear, structured it up, pleated some suiting, thrown in some menswear details like lapels, AND made the whole thing look really really sexy just blows my mind. I want to dress like this every day. P.S. the shoes they've styled these looks with are Louboutin but I would like to take this opportunity to remind all of you again, for the second year in a row to go buy some over the knee boots now while they are on sale because you will need them again next fall. Feast your eyes:
I love a good folded detail, and you know how I feel about skirts that hit just below the knee. AKA perfect.
This coat can hug me all day (and night, for that matter) long. And the pleated knit skirt? yes please.
No seriously, my eyes bugged out. I want to wear this every day, everywhere. So cozy, sexy and cool at the same time. This is such a boss lady outfit. Prepare to see many knockoff attempts at both of these pieces (Zara I'm looking at you).
I can't tell if this is a tunic over a skirt or a dress, but I don't fucking care its beautiful. And easy looking and chic.
RED! #swoon. And again with that genius layered look that is at once easy looking yet so interesting.
That collar is everything on this dress. It takes it up soooo many notches, from the mall to the runway.
Is this like an overall dress over a crop top? Or is it a dress? I don't know - and again I don't care, I just want to wear it.
Wait what? A tuxedo dress with a pleated skirt? Stick a fork in me. I'm dead.

Pinterest, lately

Since award season has officially begun, I would like to apologize in advance for the inevitable lack of posts over the next few weeks (another clue for those of you wondering what I've been up to), and also share with you what's been rocking my world in terms of red carpet inspiration. I know different people have different ideas when it comes to red carpet dressing, but I for one just want these ladies to wow me and take my breath away. That's all. Last year's Golden Globes was a study in streamlined, modern design, and most of the major attendees had very few (or zero) bells and whistles (aka bling and beading). Fucking, yawn. Red carpets are about moments - like, unforgettable, mind-blowing moments that you remember for years. I want to see these celebs, the most beautiful people in the world, in dresses that are only appropriate in that exact moment. I want the DRAMA, like shock me bitches. In a good way, of course.
There are so many gorgeous gowns out there, but when you work behind the scenes you know it's not just about the dress - it's gotta be the right dress on the right woman at the right time with the right hair, makeup, jewels, shoes and clutch. All of these dresses below, to me, have that potential. You can find these plus more of what I love on my Pinterest board entitled "red carpet worthy."
Plaid fuzzy Sweater + Gucci Ankle Boots
Friday, January 2, 2015
Sweater: Hardwear Boutique (5 fancy similar versions here)
Pants: Blank NYC
Boots: Gucci
Bag: Chanel
Sunglasses: Dsquared2
In a typical move, I posted about five fancy fuzzy sweaters and then went and bought none of them because I kept looking for more and also kept trying to convince myself that I didn't need another fuzzy sweater. When I saw this one in the window of the boutique though, I just walked right in, bought it, and left without really looking at anything else (I'm trying to be good). When you know, you know. I wore it to lunch with these Gucci boots that were one of my very first ankle boot purchases ever, about 6 years ago, which I also bought with a huge amount of conviction and no hesitation. They haven't let me down since and they probably never will. Let's hope the same goes for the sweater.
L.A. Life: 2014 family photo shoot
Wednesday, December 31, 2014
A few weeks ago I wrote about how I was dreading our annual family photo shoot, namely because it's usually a shit show. I was even more stressed about the whole thing because due to the big move, we clearly would not be able to use our longtime Tampa photographer who had been taking our pics since I first got pregs. BUT I'm so excited to finally share a few of the shots that Two Fourteen Photography (a super fun husband and wife team who clearly love doing this) was able to capture. Bonus - the whole thing was actually fun. The kids behaved, posed their asses off, and we all really enjoyed the shoot. It also only took an hour (and we got over 100 AMAZING photos) and thanks to a current LivingSocial/Groupon deal going on, was extremely affordable. Any parents of young kids (I know, the struggle) will especially appreciate these points.
Admittedly, I was skeptical about the whole Groupon thing, but I took a chance because I liked our photographers' website. How did we ever live without the internet?? You guys, I lucked out, big time. Please, by all means, if you live within the Los Angeles area and need photographers who really have a knack (and passion) for capturing families, then you definitely need to call up Two Fourteen Photography and book yourself a session. Seriously- my usually shy almost 4 year old named one of her dolls after the photographer's wife and continues to ask me about "Miss Krizelle." They are THAT good with kids. We also bribed them with promises of gum and candy. It all worked out. And now I have pictures of our first holiday season here in L.A., which are completely priceless to me, as my kids continue to grow up and say things like "MOM I need PWIVACY." Privacy?!?! You're babies! Anyway, these pics are just us - nothing more or less, no frills, just dressed up a bit but otherwise being ourselves and I love them.
As for the details, we had the photo shoot at LACMA. The girls were wearing dresses from Macys, and boots from Nordstrom (on my 2 year old) and Old Navy (on my 3 year old). My outfit details, minus the pants, which are J Brand leather leggings, can be found in this post. Hubby is wearing Old Navy Shirt, Zara Sweater, 7 for all mankind jeans, Louis Vuitton belt, and Gucci loafers. All photos shot and edited by Two Fourteen Photography.
